On February 26, 1998, the defendant, Willie Berry, was indicted for the second degree murder of Robert Garner. The defendant pled not guilty to the charge at his arraignment on March 2, 1998. The defendant's first trial ended in a mistrial on June 22, 1998 due to a hung jury. After a second jury trial on September 1, 1998, the defendant was found guilty as charged and was sentenced to life imprisonment at hard labor...
