Appellant John Cantu, a juvenile, was charged with the offense of first-degree murder. See Tex. Penal Code Ann. § 19.02(b)(2) (West 1994). After a hearing before the juvenile court, Cantu was certified to stand trial as an adult. See Tex. Fam.Code Ann. § 54.02(a)(3) (West 1996).
