WILLIAMS, Judge.

The defendant, John Hawkins, was charged by bill of information with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, a violation of LSA-R.S. 14:95.1. After a jury trial, the defendant was found guilty as charged. The defendant was sentenced to serve 12 years at hard labor without benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence.
