STEWART, J.

The defendant, William Plaisance, was charged by an indictment with second degree murder under La. R.S. 14:30.1. The defendant elected a trial by jury. On October 10, 1998, the jury returned a verdict of guilty. The defendant was sentenced to life imprisonment without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.
