On September 20, 1995, a Natchitoches Parish grand jury indicted defendant for first degree murder of Steven Traylor, a violation of La.Rev.Stat. 14:30. On January 30, 1996, the state filed notice of intent to seek the death penalty. On October 30, 1997, after a trial by jury, defendant was found guilty as charged. At the penalty phase of the trial later that day, the jury unanimously returned a verdict of death...
