Eric L. Pickens (the Defendant) was arrested on August 31, 1997, in connection with a homicide that occurred on or about August 25, 1997. The Defendant was charged by grand jury indictment for second degree murder, a violation of La.R.S. 14:30.1. Pursuant to a plea agreement reached with the State on February 4, 1998, he pled guilty to manslaughter, a violation of La.R.S. 14:31.
