Appellant James Thomas was found guilty of one count of first-degree premeditated murder in violation of Minn.Stat. § 609.185(1) (1998) for the death of 14-month-old Reneshia Featherson and one count of second-degree intentional murder in violation of Minn.Stat. § 609.19, subd. 1(1) (1998) for the death of Reneshia's mother, Tina Simmons, after a bench trial in Hennepin County District Court. Thomas was sentenced to life imprisonment...
