After a bench trial in the District Court the defendant appealed from a finding of criminal contempt under Mass. R. Crim. P. 44, 378 Mass. 920 (1979). We transferred the case here on our own motion. The defendant contends that his motion to dismiss the criminal contempt charge should have been allowed because the judge lacked authority to impose pretrial conditions on his release on personal recognizance and because the conditions attached to his release...
