R.L., a paternal aunt, and J.L., her husband, petitioned the Juvenile Court of Marshall County on October 7, 1997, for custody of J.R.M., born in June 1994. The aunt and uncle alleged that the child's mother, A.J.J., had a history of arrests, including an arrest and conviction for possession of controlled substances, for which she was on probation; a second arrest for possession of controlled substances and drug paraphernalia;1
