Defendant-appellant was charged with one count of aggravated child abuse on K.S. (defendant's seven-year-old biological son) and one count of aggravated child abuse on V.M. (defendant's former live-in girlfriend's eight-year-old daughter). The counts were severed and the State proceeded against defendant on the count of child abuse on K.S.
