On April 23, 1998, a federal grand jury indicted Bootsy Cleggett ("Cleggett") on a single count of conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine ("crack"), in violation of 21 U.S.C. § 846. On July 2, Cleggett pled guilty to the charges in the indictment.
