On July 4, 1997, Lavoy Safford arrived at Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport on an international flight. Another man, Clifton Dennis, who was traveling on the same flight was stopped by a customs officer who discovered that Dennis had 1,000 grams of cocaine tucked inside a wetsuit underneath his clothing.
