Plaintiff appeals as of right from a judgment of divorce. We affirm in part, reverse in part, and remand for further proceedings.

The parties were married in 1995. Plaintiff, Theophilus Mixon, Jr., filed for divorce in 1997. The parties' minor child, Eric T. Mixon, was born a few months later.1 After a one-day trial, the court awarded the parties joint legal custody of Eric, but granted defendant physical custody...
