¶ 1 Appellant James Van Adams appeals his conviction and death sentence for first-degree premeditated murder.1 We review this case on direct, automatic appeal pursuant to article VI, section 5.3, of the Arizona Constitution, Arizona Revised Statutes (A.R.S.) section 13-4031(1989), and Rule 31.2.b, Arizona Rules of Criminal Procedure.
