On March 16, 1995, Paul Riemer filed a complaint against his employer, the Illinois Department of Transportation ("IDOT"). He alleged that IDOT had discriminated against him in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act ("ADA"). See 42 U.S.C. §§ 12101-12213. A jury trial was held on July 16-18, 1996.
