In April 1997, defendant, Robert L. Williams, was convicted after a jury trial of possession of a stolen vehicle, a Class 2 felony (625 ILCS 5/4-103 (West 1996)) that carries a prison term of 3 to 7 years (730 ILCS 5/5-8-1(a)(5) (West 1996)) and an extended term of 7 to 14 years (730 ILCS 5/5-8-2(4) (West 1996)). Later that month, defendant was sentenced to an extended term of 10 years. Defendant filed no postsentencing...
