Michael Pretl brought this action to enforce an attorneys' fee-sharing agreement that he had entered into with the defendant Robert H. Ford. The case was presented to a jury, which returned a verdict for Pretl in the amount of $132,843.07. Ford moved for a judgment as a matter of law after Pretl rested his case; he renewed his motion at the close of all the evidence; and he asserted his motion once again after the jury had returned its verdict.
