Vitek Supply Corporation manufactured "premixes" for veal calves — that is, mixtures that feed companies and livestock growers add to animal feed. Certain premixes contained clenbuterol, avoparcine, zinc bacitracin or various nitrofurans. Some of these substances promote growth and increase meat-to-fat ratios; others treat and prevent scours (diarrhea).
