The defendant appeals from convictions of armed robbery (G. L. c. 265, § 17), assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (G. L. c. 265, § 15A[b]), and illegal possession of a firearm (G. L. c. 269, § 10[a]). Our focus in this opinion is the error by the judge in failing to notify the parties that the jury returned a question during deliberation.
