This is a direct appeal by the defendant, Kenneth A. Gardner, from his jury convictions of murder in the first degree (K.S.A. 21-3401); aggravated robbery (K.S.A. 21-3427); arson (K.S.A. 21-3718); and aggravated burglary (K.S.A. 21-3716).

The trial court sentenced Gardner to life without the possibility of parole for 25 years for the first-degree murder...
