The defendant, Brian Quincy Bowie, was originally charged by grand jury indictment with having committed the crime of manslaughter, a violation of La.R.S. 14:31. Prior to trial, the state amended the indictment to charge him with negligent homicide, a violation of La.R.S. 14:32.
