On August 19, 1997, the Jefferson Parish District Attorney filed a bill of information charging the defendant, David Rainey, with attempted second degree murder in violation of LSA-R.S. 14:27:30.1. He was arraigned and entered a plea of not guilty. Accordingly, a jury trial was conducted after which the defendant was convicted of aggravated battery.
