On April 1, 1996, the Defendant, Robert Duhon Haley, was charged by bill of information with possession, with intent to distribute, of cocaine, a violation of La.R.S. 40:967(A)(1). In open court, defense counsel waived presence of the Defendant and entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf. On September 10, 1996, jury selection began.
