The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) brought this case to recover losses sustained by Universal Savings Association, F.A. (Universal), in trading financial futures and options between 1984 and 1986. The FDIC, as successor to the Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corporation (FSLIC), Universal's receiver, filed suit against a number of parties, including the brokers who executed trades on Universal's behalf.
