The defendant, Latif Abdul-Mutakabbir, was convicted of eight counts of false personation of a judicial official in violation of section 32-5 of the Criminal Code of 1961 (Code) (720 ILCS 5/32-5 (West 1996)). The defendant appeals the conviction contending that he was denied a fair trial when the court refused to instruct the jury as to the mental state necessary for a violation of section 32-5 of the Code...
