In 1991, defendant, Alcurtis Jackson, pleaded guilty to heinous battery (720 ILCS 5/12-1.(a)(West 1994)) and was sentenced to 20 years' imprisonment. On direct appeal from the denial of defendant's motion to vacate his guilty plea and dismissal of his post-conviction petition, this court remanded the cause for a hearing on defendant's motion to withdraw his guilty plea.
