The defendant, Calvin Brown, was charged by grand jury indictment with two counts of first degree murder, violations of La.R.S. 14:30. A jury convicted him on both counts, but could not agree on the sentence in the penalty phase of the trial. The trial court then sentenced the defendant on each count to life in prison without benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence.
