INTRODUCTION

[¶ 1] These cases involve Amber Konop ("Konop") and Lacy Genzler ("Genzler"), who were in 1997 eighth grade students at the Northwestern School District in Mellette, South Dakota. They were strip searched by Paloma Patnode ("Patnode"), a music teacher, upon order of or suggestion from Raymond Sauerwein ("Sauerwein"), the Northwestern Principal.
