Petitioner Gerald English brought this proceeding on April 19, 1996 for a writ of habeas corpus pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 2254.

He was convicted in March 1985 after a jury trial in New York Supreme Court, Queens County, of murder in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, and sentenced by Justice John J. Leahy to two concurrent terms of twenty-five years to life...
