DAVIS, Chief Justice.

Leonard Dave Rachuig pled guilty before a jury to the offenses of intoxication assault and felony driving while intoxicated. See TEX. PEN.CODE ANN. § 49.07(a) (Vernon 1994), § 49.09(b) (Vernon Supp.1998). The jury assessed his punishment at eight years' confinement on both charges and a $10,000 fine on the intoxication assault charge.
