Defendant, Victor Branch, was charged with the unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon (720 ILCS 5/24-1.1(a) (West 1996)), possession of a firearm without a firearm owner's identification card (430 ILCS 65/2(a)(1) (West 1996)), and the unlawful use of weapons (720 ILCS 5/24-1(a)(4) (West 1996)).
