ARNOT, Chief Justice.

John Smith Avon, Jr. was employed by the City of Dallas as a fireman when he sustained an injury to his left knee and a subsequent injury to his right knee. Avon brought workers' compensation claims against the City of Dallas and against the Second Injury Fund of the State of Texas. Prior to trial, Avon settled with the City.
