This case came before the Court on March 3, 1998, on the appeal of the defendant, Joseph Stewart (Stewart), from a judgment of conviction on one count of possession of a sawed-off shotgun in violation of G.L.1956 § 11-47-8. Stewart argues that the trial justice erred in admitting evidence of his prior convictions and in failing to instruct the jury properly with respect to character evidence.
