Karl Anthony Smetana ("Appellant") appeals a murder conviction in which the jury assessed his punishment at ninety-nine years' imprisonment. He was indicted for intentionally murdering his mother, Margaret L. Hewes ("Hewes"), or by committing an act clearly dangerous to human life which resulted in her death.
