Appellant, Lavon Antione Johnson, was present in the area of 645 Lafond Avenue in St. Paul, Minnesota on the evening of October 21, 1995 when gunshots were fired into a car of Asian-American youths, paralyzing Bing Xiong (Bing) and killing his girlfriend, 17-year-old Mary Yang (Mary).
