The defendant, Bridgette Gibson, was charged by a grand jury with vehicular homicide, a violation of La.R.S. 14:32.1. A trial by jury was held on September 24, 1996, with the jury returning a verdict of guilty as charged. The defendant was subsequently sentenced to serve a term of nine years at hard labor, with one year of the sentence being without the benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence.
