Appellant Timothy Johnson was charged with assault in violation of D.C.Code § 22-504 (1996 Repl.). Asserting constitutional entitlement, appellant filed a motion demanding a jury trial. Basing its ruling on the misdemeanor streamlining statute,1 the trial court denied the motion. After appellant unsuccessfully renewed his jury demand, a two-day bench trial was conducted...
