On August 31, 1995, the defendant, Dwayne Alexander, was charged by bill of information with two counts of distribution of cocaine, violations of La.R.S. 40:967(A).2 Thereafter, on September 5, 1995, the defendant waived formal arraignment and entered pleas of not guilty.
