Appellants, Ervin Sterling, James Hampton and Michael Epps, were charged with assault with intent to kill while armed with a stick and shod foot (D.C.Code §§ 22-501, -3202 (1996)), mayhem while armed with a stick and shod foot (D.C.Code §§ 22-506, -3202 (1996)) and malicious destruction of property (D.C.Code § 22-403 (1996)).
