Joyce Robinson, a brakeman for the Burlington Northern Railroad Company ("Burlington" or "the railroad"), was injured while she was directing the switching movement of seventeen railroad cars from one track to another. She brought this action against Burlington under the Federal Employers' Liability Act, 45 U.S.C. §§ 51-60 ("FELA"), alleging that the railroad's negligence caused her injury.
