On April 15, 1990, Scott Jude Bourque murdered his estranged girlfriend, Charlotte Perry, and severely wounded her mother, Therese Stoute. He was indicted and subsequently convicted of first degree murder and received the death penalty. On appeal, this Court affirmed the conviction but reversed the defendant's sentence and remanded for another sentencing hearing. State v. Bourque,
