FLANDERS, Justice.

After sustaining injuries in a motor-vehicle accident with an underinsured motorist, can an insured recover damages from her own insurer when the underinsured motorist's liability coverage is less than the damages she is entitled to recover but is not less than the limits of her own underinsured-motorist coverage?
