The parties appeal and cross-appeal from a final order denying their respective motions for attorney's fees. We reverse the main appeal and affirm the cross-appeal.

In September 1993, GCA, Inc. [GCA], a general contractor, filed suit in circuit court against 90 S.W. 8th St. Enterprises, Inc. [Enterprises] to foreclose a construction lien, for breach of contract, and for quantum meruit. In its prayer for relief, GCA sought damages plus interest...
