A jury convicted defendant of first degree murder (720 ILCS 5/9-1(a) (West 1994)). The jury then found that defendant was eligible to be sentenced to death because the murdered individual was killed in the course of the felony of home invasion. 720 ILCS 5/9-1(b)(6) (West 1994).
