The defendant was indicted on January 2, 1996, on charges of theft of property valued at more than one thousand dollars ($1000) but less than ten thousand dollars ($10,000), burglary, theft of property valued at under five hundred dollars ($500), and possession of burglary tools. The first theft charge was severed from the others and in February 1996, a jury convicted...
