Vincent Fields unsuccessfully argued at his murder trial that he killed a man in self-defense. The court's jury instructions allowed the erroneous interpretation that a finding of actual imminent danger was necessary for a valid self-defense claim. Thus, the jury may have rejected Fields' self-defense claim even if Fields reasonably believed that he was in danger of great personal injury.
