BILLINGS, Judge:

Defendant Daniel Longcrier appeals his conviction of simple assault in violation of Utah Code Ann. § 76-5-102 (1995), a class B misdemeanor, which carries a maximum penalty of six months imprisonment. Defendant claims on appeal that the trial court erred in not determining whether he had a right to appointed counsel and in denying his motion for a continuance to obtain counsel. We affirm.
