On this appeal from his convictions for felony murder while armed (robbery) and related offenses, Jolly's primary argument is that repeated instructions to the jury by the trial judge unfairly limited his ability to demonstrate the bias of key government witnesses. The disputed instructions stemmed from the judge's effort to draw a line between two defenses: (a) a legitimate bias defense that these witnesses had falsely accused Jolly to avert...
