DOUCET, Chief Judge.

This appeal arises out of the defendant's conviction for simple rape and the sentence imposed in connection with it.

Vanessa Pierce alleges that the defendant held her captive in his home for approximately twenty-four hours beginning on July 31, 1995, during which time he repeatedly raped and beat her. After he released her, she reported the incident to the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Department.
