The appellant, David Eugene Johnson, was charged with three counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, violations of § 13A-12-211, Code of Alabama 1975. On January 29, 1997, the appellant represented himself during the trial proceedings after he had terminated the services of his court-appointed attorney the morning of the trial.
